I walked down to the dock and found the rear owl, which was filled with rocks and weight ~ 20 pounds had be blown down from the upper dock onto my swim platform. The other owl I had on the boat bridge was totally gone!

Also 1/4 of my boat dock roof was ripped off as well as other dock roofs.

Luckily the boat did not suffer any damage but I did notice my 5/8" dock lines were stretched and I had to shorten them up.
I heard that the local yacht club's floating docks tore loose and three docks (including boats) blew across the river and landed almost onto the highway. So I went to check it out.

The Guntersville area had over 200 homes damaged and estimates are $8.5 million in overall damages.
I heard rumors that we would be out of power for maybe up to a week. To save my refrigerator food (primarily my stock of frozen pizzas), I cranked up the generator on Lights Out and moved the refer food to the boat refer.
It was candle light for me and the dogs Monday evening. What fun!
Tuesday AM still no power and then I thought about the sump pump under the house and with all the rain I decided to check the crawl space. The crawl space was flooding which would weaken the foundation. Not knowing when power would be back on I decided to get an emergency generator. Well, like any disaster, there was a run on generators and none could be found locally. I went to Lowe's near Huntsville (about 23 miles) and found one left so I bought it. It's a 6.5 KW generator and I brought it home, bought some gas, put it together, wired it to office, refer, sump pump and fired it up. It has a 13 hour run time on 7 gallons of gas.
The sump pump pumped out water from under the house for a long time. Five hours later power was restored!!! Oh well, at least I am now prepared for another long term power outage.
My cable and Internet connection was out all week and just came up a few hours ago. On Thursday I took my laptop to McDonald's and wireless's connected to their WiFi and down loaded 125 email messages. Did the same this AM as well.
Other than that is has been a usual week living on Lake Guntersville!

Gosh!! We had really bad storms Monday, but no damage like that! Will any home insurance or anything cover the roof to your boat slip? That stinks about your cable and internet, we'd be lost without it, esp. our internet! How were the dogs during the storm? I didn't know McDonald's had Wi-fi, cool!

ReplyDeleteWow, that almost looks like some hurricane damage. That's not what I would have expected for spring weather in Guntersville. That's not fun you lost power and internet, but I'm glad your boat is ok, at least.
ReplyDeleteI watched your new Buddy/Max adventure. Pretty cool. They both have the same high pitched whine when they were going at it, and you can really tell their resemblance in some of their mannerisms. I'm glad to hear they are getting along better now!
Tornadoes are pretty known down here. I am glad you were safe. It's amazing how tornadoes hit one house.. and the next house can be perfecty normal. We had some very bad tornadoes here in Murfreesboro and Billions of $ in damage too. 2 People died.. and young mother and her baby. Very sad. Anyways... very interesting video on Max and Buddy. I noticed a few things about it, one being... Max likes to use his paws a lot.. like when they were playing tug of war. Over all.. I hope the worst is over with then fighting. I also noticed.. if Max see's something in the distance.. he gets real still and lets out a little growl. It's then when Buddy went up to Max aggressivly.
